Haunted by visions of ghostly animals, he fears he is losing his mind. But when a long-lost uncle appears, Ruben learns his curse is actually a gift: a rare link to the Astral World, where the spirits of all mammals go after death.

Ruben is brought deep into the Faywoods, a sprawling forest older than civilization itself, where the line between the natural world and the spirit realm grows thin. There, he begins training as a Grovekeeper—but beneath the forest’s roots, a plot stirs that could unravel the balance of every mammal nation.
