Just Plain Folks

The book titled JUST PLAIN FOLKS is a story that begins with a family member’s California Gold Rush experience. His grandfather Brower’s early years in Oklahoma to include the Cherokee Strip land run and Greenfield, Oklahoma, where Kenneth Awtrey Brower was born in 1938.

The story continues with his Dad’s Brower family and Mom’s Awtrey family members experience through World War I, the Spanish Flu, the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression.

Ken enlisted in the Oklahoma National Guard following high school in 1938. This Great Generation Guy was steadfast in his Army Air Corps service to his country in World War II. He was shot down on his 46th bombing mission over France. He was fortunate to escape capture and was hidden by the French Underground until liberation months later. Recalled by the US Air Force for the Korean conflict he stayed on active service through his assignment as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Vietnam War.

The book is written by his son Thomas Brower, a former executive for The Daily Oklahoman, Oklahoma City. He nominated his Dad in 2013 for the Oklahoma Heritage Military Hall of Fame where he was selected posthumously in October, 2024.
